What’s to Fear?

The reason you feel restricted to go for it. The reason your heart rate goes up and your palms get sweaty. The reason you back out. The reason you remind yourself of everything that is wrong with you. The reason you miss out on things that can potentially lead you to success .

The reason is fear.

From the age of thirteen, I experienced loss back to back. I lost one of the closest people to me due to cancer, I lost friendships, relationships, after all of that, I lost my drive to be vulnerable. After experiencing the inconsistency that was highly active in my life, I was afraid to open back up and trust. I never wanted to be in the position of getting hurt again. I would never be able to forgive myself if I allowed someone the ability to control my emotions. I was afraid to experience pain.

To this day, fear is something I struggle with on a day to day basis. My fear lies within the unknown. I don’t know what will happen if I get close to someone, and that’s scary. So many things can go wrong. They can take advantage of me, they can use my past against me, they can manipulate me, they can come into my life for a decent amount of time and leave without any explanation. The list goes on and on.

The point is, fear can put a leash around our necks and control how far we go in any area of our lives, but that is not what life is about. Life is about stepping out of our comfort zone to see what else is out there waiting for us, and with patience and courage, we tend to find everything we’ve been wanting and more. If it doesn’t go as planned, so what? Nothing ever does. we can’t always get what we want. Whether it’s a relationship that doesn’t fall through or a sports team you didn’t make, just know that it wasn’t meant to be.

Fear has a grip tighter than we want to admit. This isn’t some exotic emotion, but a common feeling that many can testify for. When fear smells a person who has been affected by something that didn’t go their way, it attacks. We have the ability to fight back using courage, confidence, trust and curiosity. What cycle do you want to be caught up in? The cycle of continuous missed opportunities because fear won the match every single time, or a cycle of continuous attempted opportunities that eventually will land you a golden ticket to where you are supposed to be?

The choice is yours. The choice is always yours. With that being said, no one has the authority to influence your choice nor should anyone have the ability to effectively place fear in your life. Develop the necessary skills needed to over come any type of adversity. Adversity is unavoidable, and with adversity, fear normally tends to tag along and find someone with a weaker mentality. So always be prepared to pull out your strengths to keep pushing forward.

Be in-tuned with your emotions enough to identify the reasons you aren’t taking chances or exceeding your full potential. You’ll be surprised to find out how big of a role fear may play in your life, and what it is keeping you from finding out about your journey.

Fear– Feel anxiety or apprehension on behalf of…/ avoid or putting off something because one is afraid.

Adversity– Difficulties; Misfortune
